About the Master's Programme

Interdisciplinarity. Internationality. Diverse. Theoretical, yet practical.

These are the cornerstones of the Master’s programme Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS). Aside from its core areas in political science and sociology, the degree offers courses in various other disciplines, such as philosophy, history, or cultural studies, to students to complement their studies. Hence, students from other of disciplines, or with work experiences will feel at home in this Master's Programme. Many participants from all parts of the world, including Latin America, Africa, or Asia contribute extensively to the diversity of the programme. Many of them are supported by scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The degree is aimed at preparing students for both academic and field work at universities, think tanks, NGOs, or other institutions on a national or international level. The goal is to bring together current and future peace and conflict researchers and to reduce the divide between theory and practice in a less formal setting. It includes an obligatory internship and language courses, through which students gain practical experiences and acquire additional skills useful for their later professional life. Due to the close cooperation between students and teachers the degree offers a very personal experience in which to study peace and conflicts.
